چکیده
Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a relatively frequent problem in neurologic or neurosurgical practice [1]. The potential for recovery from the evacuation of a CSDH is relatively high. However, some postoperative complications may affect the postoperative course [2]. In this study, we report a rare complication of contralateral acute hematoma following the evacuation of a CSDH with burr-hole craniotomy and continuous closed system drainage. Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a relatively frequent problem in neurologic or neurosurgical practice. Treatments for CSDH are well established and provide positive postoperative outcome; however, some atypical postoperative complications can occur. This study reports a rare complication of delayed contralateral acute hematoma following the evacuation of a chronic subdural hematoma with burr-hole craniotomy and continuous closed system drainage. According to our research, our study is the first to report a delayed contralateral acute subdural hematoma following CSDH surgery.

Contralateral acute subdural hematoma occurring after evacuation of subdural hematoma with coexistent contralateral subdural hygroma
Burr-hole craniostomy with closed-system drainage is a safe and effective method for the management of chronic subdural hematoma. However, contralateral acute subdural hematoma has been reported to be a rare and devastating complication. Only 3 cases have been described in the literature. Herein, we reported an 80-year-old male with chronic subdural hematoma and contralateral subdural hygroma. ...

Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) and symptomatic subdural hygroma are common diseases that require neurosurgical management. Burr hole trephination is the most popular surgical treatment for CSDH and subdural hygroma because of a low recurrence rate and low morbidity compared with craniotomy with membranectomy, and twist-drill craniotomy. Many reports suggest that placing a catheter in the subd...

Sequential development of extradural hematoma (EDH) during decompressive craniotomy and evacuation for acute subdural hematoma (ASDH) causing massive brain bulge is rare, it may represent to be first indication of hematoma development. About thirty seven cases are published in the form of isolated case report till date. Management is debated, as first to carry out exploratory burr-hole or neces...
متن کاملEpidural Hematoma Complication after Rapid Chronic Subdural Hematoma Evacuation: A Case Report
BACKGROUND Chronic subdural hematoma generally occurs in the elderly. After chronic subdural hematoma evacuation surgery, the development of epidural hematoma is a very rare entity. CASE REPORT We report the case of a 41-year-old man with an epidural hematoma complication after chronic subdural hematoma evacuation. Under general anesthesia, the patient underwent a large craniotomy with closed...

Burr hole drainage has been widely used to treat chronic subdural hematomas (SDH), and most of them are easily treated by simple trephination and drainage. However, various complications, such as, hematoma recurrence, infection, seizure, cerebral edema, tension pneumocephalus and failure of the brain to expand due to cerebro-cranial disproportion may develop after chronic SDH drainage. Among th...
